According to a report by a reference news website on November 14th, Hong Kong media reported that after China launched its first mobile communication satellite "Tiantong-1 01", a top aerospace technology company launched its first smartphone using the Tiantong system at the Zhuhai Air Show.
According to the website of Hong Kong's South China Morning Post on November 6th, the new smartphone developed by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation is expected to be launched in two to three months and will soon enter the global market dominated by the UK's International Mobile Satellite Company.
Satellite experts believe that the newly launched smartphones are a product of the long-term strategy of the "Space Silk Road". Chinese aerospace enterprises, research institutions and scholars hope to promote the construction of the "the Belt and Road" with the help of the "Space Silk Road" strategy.
An engineer from the 5th Research Institute of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation said, "The 'Tiantong-1' smartphone can now cover China's land and the entire South China Sea. We will launch a series of Tiantong-1 satellites in the next five years to expand our coverage globally, because our ultimate goal is to replace or even surpass international mobile satellite companies
The engineer introduced that the new intelligent machine is designed specifically for emergency communication and can serve field geological exploration personnel and disaster relief personnel in remote areas, or play a role in the ground communication network when encountering natural disasters or accidents.
He said, 'Our product also supports the US GPS system and the domestically produced Beidou navigation system.'. ”
In addition to satellite communication, the new phone is also compatible with various terrestrial mobile networks, including 4G LTE and 3G networks, supporting SMS, WeChat, video, and data transmission functions, and can freely switch between satellite communication and terrestrial communication modes.
The retail price of the new smartphone will start at 10000 yuan, and the communication cost will start at 1 yuan per minute, which is equivalent to one tenth of the price of international mobile satellite companies.
Shanghai University of Political Science and Law scholar He Qisong believes that the development of satellite smartphones indicates that China has begun to implement a global strategy and establish an independent space earth communication network.
"The 'Space Silk Road' is a specific application of the 'the Belt and Road' initiative, which provides independent, safe, convenient and inexpensive communication networks to Chinese companies that expand overseas markets with Beijing's encouragement."
I believe that Chinese companies in the Middle East will be potential users of Tiantong's smartphone services, as the Beidou system also targets the market in this region
According to reports, Tiantong System has developed users in China, the Middle East, Africa and other regions. China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation stated that the ground services of Tiantong Mobile will be operated by China Telecom.
