Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, December 27, 2014 (Reporters Yu Xiaojie and Liu Lu) - At a press conference held by the State Council Information Office on the 27th, Ran Chengqi, the spokesperson for the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, introduced the situation since the system officially began providing services to the Asia-Pacific region one year ago. The Chinese and English versions of the "BeiDou Navigation Satellite System Public Service Performance Specification (Version 1.0)" and the "BeiDou Navigation Satellite System Space Signal Interface Control Document (Version 2.0)" were launched online today.
"The second civil signal B2I of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) released today has revised the content of the B1I signal interface described in the interface control document released last year. It marks the entry of the BDS into the era of multi-frequency applications and signifies the capability to provide navigation services with higher accuracy. Based on this, domestic and foreign enterprises can develop dual-frequency high-precision receivers for the BDS," said Ran Chengqi.
According to the "three-step" strategic plan of China's Beidou Navigation Satellite System, the Beidou Navigation Satellite Test System was established in 2000. In 2012, the Beidou Navigation Satellite System covering the Asia-Pacific region was completed. The third step is to build a Beidou Navigation Satellite System with better performance that covers the whole world.
"Around next year, China will launch a new generation of Beidou navigation satellites with better performance, and it is expected that the Beidou satellite navigation system covering the whole world will be established around 2020. The overall performance of this system will be improved by one to two times compared to the current one. Coupled with the construction of the enhanced system, the positioning accuracy will be higher, reaching meter-level and decimeter-level," said Ran Chengqi.
Ran Chengqi introduced six key points for the construction of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System in the coming years. First, we should further improve the system itself; second, continuously enhance its performance; third, focus on the research, development, and production of core chips and basic software; fourth, establish and improve a nationwide network, an Asia-Pacific network, and a ground-based augmentation system; fifth, promote the "going global" of BeiDou through international cooperation; sixth, improve the corresponding industrial policy system.
